Bespoke Fitted Bedroom Wardrobes in Falmouth, Cornwall

“We are so so pleased with the wardrobes Jack made. They are very well designed to fit in an awkward space that once had a water tank in it ! We love the full length doors and the simplicity of them . The whole process from designing to installation was seamless. Highly recommend .”

Making the most of every inch
This bedroom in Falmouth called for a considered storage solution that would make better use of the available space without compromising the clean, understated feel of the room.
Designed, manufactured and installed by Down The Lane Workshop, the full-height fitted wardrobes combine a minimalist, handleless exterior with practical storage tailored to the room’s layout. Painted Hydrofugo board, soft-close hinges and push-to-open mechanisms create a crisp, uninterrupted finish, with no handles to distract from the simple lines of the cabinetry.

Turning an awkward space into useful storage
One of the main challenges was the angled section to the right of the wardrobe, which sits above the stairwell. Previously, this area had simply been boarded off, leaving valuable space unused.
By designing the cabinetry around the changing wall profile, I was able to incorporate additional storage into this awkward area. The stepped-back arrangement works with the shape of the room, creating a cohesive fitted installation while making more of the available footprint.
It’s a good example of the value of bespoke cabinetry: rather than working around the limitations of standard furniture, the design can respond directly to the space.

Materials & Details
The wardrobe fronts were designed to keep the overall appearance simple and uncluttered. Push-to-open doors remove the need for handles, while soft-close hinges provide a smooth, controlled closing action.
Behind the clean exterior, the internal arrangement incorporates hanging space and open shelving for everyday storage. The painted Hydrofugo board provides the basis for a consistent finish across the fitted units.
Every element was designed and made for this particular bedroom, from the main run of wardrobe doors to the storage incorporated into the angled section.
