Hallway Bootroom Storage in Flushing, Cornwall
A made-to-measure hallway unit combining practical everyday storage with a comfortable place to sit and put on shoes.
“‘Jack produced a bespoke storage unit for our hallway. During the process Jack was an excellent communicator and assured me he had taken every step to ensure the unit fitted perfectly into the space. Jack had a lot of consideration for the style of our 200 year old house and produced a piece that fits really well with existing staircase and wood finishing. Jack is an extremely professional and capable craftsman and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him.’”

A practical solution, Matching the existing home
The brief was to make better use of a hallway alcove, creating dedicated space for shoes, wellies and tennis equipment, alongside a drawer for everyday essentials. A built-in bench provides a convenient place to sit while putting on shoes.
The design needed to feel in keeping with the character of the house, rather than looking like an addition. Shaker-style drawer and cupboard fronts give the cabinetry a familiar, traditional feel, while the warm timber top brings natural texture to the hallway.

Painted cabinetry and European redwood
I designed, built and installed the complete unit, finishing the cabinetry in Little Greene paint and using European redwood for the worktop.
The timber was chosen to sit comfortably alongside the wood already used throughout the house, helping the new joinery feel connected to its surroundings. Traditional detailing and carefully considered proportions bring together the practical requirements of the brief with the existing character of the home.
